Ideal for free range chickens, Reid Gold is a multi-grain, complete mash feed that is nutritious and easy to digest.
Reid Gold Specifications
Reid Gold is specially created from a selection of ingredients that may include wheat, corn, barley, sorghum, peas, lupins, soya bean meal and canola meal.
The product also includes fats and/or oils, both fine limestone and limestone grit, monodicalcium phosphate, salt, sodium bicarbonate, amino acids, vitamins (including Hy-D), a combination of inorganic and organic trace minerals, feed enzymes and carotenoid yolk pigmenters.
DOES NOT CONTAIN RESTRICTED ANIMAL MATERIAL (RAM).
This mash layer feed is produced using state of the art grain crushing and mixing facilities.
High quality grain is evenly ground and combined with protein meals, fats or oils, minerals and vitamins to ensure nutrients are evenly spread through the layer feed to ensure the needs of commercial free-range flocks are met.
The feed includes high quality, coarse limestone grit, which is ground by the hen’s gizzard to slowly release calcium. This supports excellent shell quality in high performing layer flocks.

Keep Your Hens On The Lay
Ensure a high performing free range flock with layer feed from Reid Stockfeeds.
Why Feed Reid?
This layer feed ensures laying hens have a fully balanced diet.
The specialty formula contains all the essential nutrients required to support healthy hens, high-quality eggs and strong shells.
Reid Gold Feeding Directions
- Feed Reid Gold to multi-age free-range flocks of hens from one week prior to point of lay and throughout lay.
- Do not restrict the feed intake of the hens. Offer them ample feed (ad libitum basis).
- In situations where the hens have access to pasture, the hens should ideally consume at least 100g per hen per day of Reid Gold. If feed intake is less than this due to intake of grass or other foods, please speak with your Reid Stockfeeds representative for guidance on supply of another more suitable diet.
Usage Tips
- Reid Gold free range chicken feed is suitable for all commonly applied feeding systems.
- If your hens are fed in troughs in open settings, keep feed dry and take steps to mitigate against incursion by wild birds and rodents.
- Ensure there is sufficient feeder space to avoid competition between hens.
Layer Feeding Advice From Reid Stockfeeds
- Eggshells become thinner as hens age. Consider providing extra shell grit or limestone grit to older layers.
- Hens may go ‘off the lay’ during winter months if they do not spend enough time in the light. Ensure hens are provided with light as recommended by your hatchery’s Management Guide.
- Heat stress can result in poor egg production and can lead to avoidable mortality. Ensure hens have plenty of shade and are well ventilated in summer. Employ foggers if possible.
- For healthy layers, it is vital to ensure drinking water is cool and is always available.
